As the UK weather continues to try to dampen our spirits and enthusiasm, we crave the release from reality and the chance to get away from the real world and race. But even then the weather try’s its best to attack that at the moment.
Everything becomes a chore, parking in mud, playing in mud and washing mud, and it’s almost mid summer!
Anyway, SNAP out of that as on the 23rd 24th June it will be once again time for the BXUK QRA Joe’s Bar Goldrush Beach Cross weekend. The MX style track is constructed on the dry sands of Ingoldmells, near Skegness, Lincolnshire. Competitors park up on the promenade, just metres away from the track. Pit from an area on the beach next to the start and they and their family/guests have not only the racing to keep them entertained but all that this popular, thriving holiday resort has to offer. Plus the food , drink and entertainment in Joe’s Bar itself.
After class qualification in the morning, each class gets three rides per day, so six point scoring rides over the two days towards the overall event result. Those classes being, A and B Adult MX and A and B Adult Quad, Elite Youth Quad (12-16) and if enough a separate Mini Bike event on the Saturday evening.
The organisers want to make the point that the track does not get laid out in the standing water of the tide lines, and is in the dry sand of the beach. Plus with the support of one of the event partners Duck Smart there will be a wash bay provided should the need arise to clean of the machines which normally only requires the sand to be blown off leaving them sparkling and smelling great.
The event attracts riders of all abilities and many newcomers are heading to Ingoldmells this year along with last year’s Goldrush winner and reigning MCF BXUK British Beach Cross MX Champion Arnaud Degousee, the Frenchman is someone to watch (and beat) along with nine times Dakar competitor Eric Croquelois. Brit Ali Davies is hoping to push for points along with other Brits from across the UK.
In the Quad class the field is headed by Frenchman Jérome Bricheux and Belgiun ace Auke Theuninck with many Brits including last year’s top three Luke Brown, Paul Bennett, Laurence Stopps plus in form James Fletcher and several lady riders including Katie Hodgson and Jade Pole among the riders flying the flag for the Brits in the Jubilee year.
