ISLAND IN THE MCF

By Jeff Perrett

The MC Federation and the Vectis MX club are pleased to announce that they have joined forces. The superbly run family club on the Isle of Wight have come over to the MCF and are looking forward to working with them to bring motocross more to the attention of the Islanders and hopefully a few more racers from the mainland!

The club may no longer have use of the fantastic Gore Basin circuit at Arreton, the memorable home of the 2004 & 2005 British GP but they still have some brilliant tracks on the rolling hills and their club membership is growing all the time. Momentum that the club wish to keep going by not only improving the best they can for their existing club members but also in trying to attract new ones, something which Vectis MX Chairmain Lee Webb believes the MCF can help with better than anyone.

“As anyone who has ever done it will know, running a motocross club requires motivation, enthusiasm, knowledge and a whole lot of hard work. We fell that it is vital that the federation or organisation a club signs up to have all of these qualities and we are positive the MCF has these and more.

Their team are made up with ex GP/British Championship riders and people within the MX industry; who together have a wealth of knowledge to offer their clubs. Their enthusiasm for the sport is exciting and their commitment to the youth is second to none. In my opinion these guys know what today’s racers want from their club and from the race meetings their club run” believes Lee.

For Club secretary Tracey Webb it was also what the MCF has to offer with the admin of running the club that really appealed. “Vectis motocross club is a relatively small one with membership made up from mainly Island residents, who run 10 race meetings a season plus a two day memorial meeting in July. But we are always happy to welcome riders from further afield, so if anyone fancies a cruise across to the Isle of Wight they can visit our website www.vectismx.com for a list of our meetings.

As an Island Club the principal of all officials being provided by the club themselves is ideal, as we have previously struggled to guarantee attendance from mainland stewards. As race secretary a very appealing part of MCF's package is the online booking system - giving riders the opportunity to book and pay online is very attractive to both secretary and riders alike.”

“It was a unanimous decision by the committee members to join MCF - after meeting the team, their passion and commitment shone through rubbing off on all who attended. Well done to the MCF - we are very excited about being on board!” summed up a delighted Lee.
